58 years ago, some brave God-fearing and proud men stood up and came together to claim the right to freedom and independence of our beloved country. Most of those men are now dead but their work isn’t, and the fight is far from over. If brave, God-fearing and proud Nigerians fail to stand up in their stead today, in unity and love, then all that was once won will be lost. In the words of Richelle Goodrich, let us take a moment to appreciate the true beauty of freedom
without freedom I am a slave in shackles on a ship lost at sea. With freedom I am a captain; I am a pirate; I am an admiral; I am a scout; I am the eagle souring overhead; I am the north star guiding a crew; I am the ship itself; I am whatever I choose to be.
For every Nigerian, the 1st of October is not simply a commemoration of our Independence, It is a celebration of our freedom, our unity and life itself. Peace, Love and Unity – that is and will always be my prayer for my country.
