The Move

Finally! I’ve been waiting forever for this day, and it’s finally here. I’m so excited about moving to my new place out of the city. I’ve always disliked living in the city with all its noise and pollution. My dream has been to live out in the country, as close to nature as possible. With the green hills, the clean air and just overlooking snow topped mountains. Well, this is not exactly my dream home but it’s the closest I’ve come to it so farStill the air is so fresh and the grass so green and lush.

I really love my little cottage home, with its white picket fence and two little rooms. There is a sitting room, a bathroom and a kitchen where I can make my meals. There aren’t any neighbors or stores for about a quarter mile or so, and that’s just perfect for me. I can already see myself sitting out here away from the world, right next to nature while I dream my dreams and write my stories.

I move my few belongings into the house and try to settle in as much as I can on the first day. I normally prefer to just unpack and put everything in their place on the first day, so I can rest afterward. I choose a book to read tonight as I prepare to have my bath. I turn on the shower and enjoy the feeling of warm water cascading down my body for a few minutes, then I get out of the bath and dry myself. On the bathroom floor, I see water- more than should be spilled from my bath, but I just dismiss it. As I enter the kitchen to get my dinner from the microwave, I notice there’s water all over the kitchen floor, now that’s odd. I try not to panic, while I try to trace where all the water came from. Water is literally everywhere and up to my ankles, now I’m panicking. All the taps are off so there must be something wrong somewhere. I rush to the bathroom to get a bucket and towel, just to discover the bathroom is also flooded and almost getting into my room. I frantically search for the stopper on the bathroom floor. Thankfully I find it at the corner, and pull it out to let the water out.

Just then, I see that the wall by the shower stall is soaked and dripping water. So that’s where the water’s from! I get some nylon and wrap it as best as I can, then put a bucket under the drip. I rush into the kitchen now knowing where to look since I turned on the sink earlier. And just like the bathroom, there’s a leak by the wall of the sink! Oh God this can’t be happening! I’m even afraid to investigate the rest of the house, but with it being night already and considering its distance to town how do I get someone here to fix this, because clearly the plumbing here is a mess! I could wake up to find my home flooded. What a nightmare!
